Dr. Vivian T. Yin is a expert surgeon, researcher and teacher in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery as an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver since 2014. She previously worked at the prestigous Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She focuses on the treatment of periocular and orbital cancer, especially the use of targeted therapy, and speaks internationally on these topics. After completing her medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of Toronto, she pursued a prestigious 2-year fellowship training in Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Yin is also a leader in global health and health system transformation with a Master in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She have worked in eliminating blindness in low and middle income countries throughout the world, including Bangladesh, the Philippines, Nepal, India, Rwanda and Tanzania to teach and provide surgical care for those in need. She is the chair of the Canadian Association of Public Health and Global Ophthalmology and represents the Canadian Ophthalmology Society to the International Council on Ophthalmology. She has also been on the board of directors of Seva Canada, a Vancouver-based NGO, for the past 6 years.
